Hair Maintenance

Prior To Installation

We recommend you wash and condition the hair before installing your weave. Using a good quality moisturizing shampoo followed by a moisturizing conditioner (see recommended products). We suggest you wash the hair while it is still in the original tied bundle to prevent the strands of hair becoming tangled up within the weft. After washing and while still damp a small amount of leave-in conditioner can be applied to the hair followed by a gentle comb with a wide toothed comb and then hair left to air dry.

Installation

It is highly recommended that the wefts are not split or cut in order to keep shedding to an absolute minimum. If for styling purposes you feel the need to split or cut the wefts, we recommend the usage of a weft or washable fabric sealer to seal your wefts. In order to limit shedding further, when installing the hair, care should be taken to avoid sewing through the wefts. Instead, the aim should be to sew around the weft.

Washing After Installation

In order to keep your hair looking it’s best, it should be washed and deep conditioned regularly (at least once a week) with a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. When washing the hair, care should be taken to prevent unnecessary tangling by gently rubbing the hair in a downward motion only. This is very important especially if the hair is curly or very wavy. A leave-in-conditioner or light hair serum can be applied to the hair while damp. Hair should be left to air dry or alternatively, if the hair is curly/wavy a hair diffuser can be used. Occasionally, a clarifying shampoo, (followed by a moisturizing conditioner) can be used to remove any excessive product build up on the hair.

Daily Maintenance

It is best to use either a Denman Brush or a wide tooth comb. Gently brush /comb the bottom of the hair first and work your way up to the root. If the hair feels dry, a small amount of Argan Oil or a light hair serum can be applied, paying particular attention to the ends of the hair. Attention should also be paid to the nape area where light tangling can occur due to the rubbing of the hair against clothing. If this occurs, a leave-in conditioner or detangler can be applied to the affected area. Heavy oils, lotions and pomades containing petroleum should be avoided. Note Regarding Curly Hair: Extra care must be taken if the hair is curly or very wavy. Daily moisturization is the key to maintaining gorgeous looking curls. It is recommended that a mixture of water and a moisturizing conditioner (4 parts water: 1 part conditioner) be used to dampen the hair before combing, brushing or manipulating the hair in any way. This will prevent the hair from frizzing and also aid in the loosening of any tangles. At this point curl activating and/or anti-frizz products can also be applied to the hair. Such products add moisture to the hair and help define the curl pattern. While the hair is still damp, lightly brush and scrunch the hair until the required curl/wave pattern is achieved. Leave the hair to air dry without further manipulation. Alternatively, a hair diffuser can be used on a low setting to dry the hair. Never brush/comb dry curly hair as this creates frizz and can lead to breakage. Curly hair should be washed and deep conditioned at least once a week to eliminate product build up and to help keep the hair moisturized. You may do the following in maintaining the hair. Use any regular shampoo and conditioner in treating the hair. We recommend to use less heat as possible no more than 400 degrees.
